Anti-MASS's resident Hard Dance Femme Turkana has been making waves in Kampala's underground scene since 2019.
Turkana has carved out a unique sonic space, characterised by sharp, decisive breaks between sounds & genres, while remaining squarely in the demain of the Hard, Cunty electronics.
The South Sudanese artist grew up in Kakuma, near lake Turkana in Kenya before moving to Uganda. Turkana's background has been defined by Perpetual Dislocation & Rapid, Improvised Reconstitution, and this is the dominant "form" of her music. Dizzying break downs are compensated for with sobering industrial drum patterns, all culminating in a force-field of tension so strong, it would leave a battered, exhausted audience begging for more pain.
